Last year one of my groups was challenged to create a card with only Red, White and Blue. We made three cards and then swapped them.
I make a collage card using blue metallic crinkle paper, white textured wallpaper, translucent printed vellum, and red mulberry paper. We were allowed to use gold as an accent so I added a butterfly peel-off and a brass text plaque.
Here are two cards I made from my parts-and-starts drawer quite a while back.
The first started out as a simple magazine photo of a lake. That ring of ripples was too good to resist so I added a rub-on of a jumping fish. Then came the swooping bird and finally the rowboat. I had these great text stickers and they were the perfect finishing touch.
The second card motif was a botanical illustration from a book. I cut an oval in printed scrapbook paper to frame it and used the center scrap to make the matching tag. The text blocks are stickers.
I love being able to combine elements from a variety of sources - many of which would be trash in another's hands - to make something fresh.
The magazine in the Sunday paper had an ad for these three hummingbird ornaments. I cut them out for this card.
I ran a piece of white cardstock thru my Xyron and placed it sticky-side up on the table. After placing the birds on it I sprinkled it with three colors of ultrafine glitter. The edges of the glittered card were inked with cranberry color and glued to the front of a gold metallic card.
The central stamped, embossed and colored image was stamped by my sister-in-law on a Thanksgiving dinner invitation. I saved it for repurposing!
I made the background with peel-and-stick paint samples which I cut into 1/2 inch strips. I arranged them on a square of paper with diagonal lines drawn on.
After gluing on the image I trimmed it up with peel-offs. I didn't have gold so used a Sharpie marker on silver ones to get the same effect. I mounted the whole lot on a square yellow-gold card.
I am obviously working on the holidays way out of order! My latest creation is a Halloween card. I was inspired by the Halloween card shown on one of my lists that used this same stitching template. I have stitched it up several times myself but always end up putting something old-fashioned or elegant in the frame.
This time I had it already stitched up in copper metallic Sulky thread on dark green cardstock. I had multiples of the central motif which are stickers. I applied one to the center and two more onto plain white cardstock. From these I cut out separate elements and mounted with foam tape for a nice 3D image.
Double matting, first on copper edged with dark green ink then on orange, brought out the colors of the stitching and the illustration. I added more stickers in the corners for framing and a fabric text sticker at the bottom.
My dear hubby really listens to me! The other day I walked from work over to the post office to mail a package. To get there I have to pass by a Hallmark store and they had a lovely card rack sitting on the sidewalk marked $20.
As I passed by I twirled it around and then put my hand up as a 'blinder' and walked away muttering "you do not need this...you do not need this...". Of course I had to to the same on the way back to work (including twirling it around).
I laughingly told my husband this story that evening. Then today he announced that we had a stop to make in town because he had bought me something. Oh, the delight when he pulled up to the Hallmark shop and loaded that rack in the back of the truck.
Is this a cool guy, or what? So now I have this rack holding my card inventory right inside the door to my studio. Doesn't it look great?
A packet of coordinated papers and embellishments for a 'baby boy' scrapbook page was given me a couple of years ago. I used most of the elements to create a mini-scrapbook for a friend when she had her first grandson.
There were not enough things to create a new page or album so I've been hanging on to these since then.
This week I took the three tags, and applied them to the front of a blue card, added some ribbon and rub-on text from another kit. I used up my two remaining stickers on the inside - a large rattle and a medium teddy bear.
I am anxious now to find someone having a baby boy so I can pass on this card. I love how it turned out.

We had a discussion a while back about a technique using Future Floor Wax with a bit of Pearl-Ex Powder to paint on black cardstock. Firstly it is stamped and embossed in gold with a 'loosly designed' floral.
This one I used as a sympathy card.
One of the paper crafts magazines I read had an online bonus project several months ago. It was card fronts, tags, and embellishments coordinated for Christmas. Not the colors I would have chosen but I printed out three sets anyway.
I finally got around to making them up this week by adding one of the circle embellishments to the front twirls and covering it with a clear bubble. On the inside I placed the tags with a text block added.
Another set to put away for the upcoming holidays.
I used a hand-carved rubber stamp set of three roses for this card. Each was stamped separately on white using a dark pink stamp pad. The roses were then colored with two tones of watercolor pencils and lightly wetted using a water brush.
For mounting the blooms were cut out as individual elements and arranged on a printed cardstock. I attache dthe base of each rose with double-stick tape and the tops with mounting foam. Vellum stickers of leaves and filler flowers make up the background.
Several years ago I did a watercolor painting of a floral still life. I didn't like the way it turned out so I have filed it away all this time. The other day It occured to me that I might be able to fiddle with it in my graphics program so I scanned it in and the fun began.
These are my three favorites - I used filters for broken tile, elephant hide, and needlepoint.
I just printed them out and used them on card fronts with embellishments.

This 128 page paperbound book focuses entirely on portraits, working through recording the cycle and special events of your life.
There is nothing about this book that you will not love. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yep, I've moved on from doing Christmas cards and I'm doing ahead for Easter!
I got some old drapery sample books with squares of lace panels in them. I cut out floral elements from them and mounted with spray adhesive on card fronts.
I got a ton of these cards made and the cost was just for the cardstock.

A little bit early with the Christmas cards - but otherwise when would I have time to do them?
I did two of these snowflakes on pale purple mulberry paper mounted on cardstock. I used tape-runner around only the outside edges so I could stitch through both the paper and the cardstock at the same time. One was stitched in silver but does not show up in the photo as well as this one.

On one of our drives south a couple of weeks ago we noted a HUGE nest of twigs and branches set atop a platform over a utility pole. We inquired of the ferry captain (Buena Vista Ferry) and he told us it was the nest of Osprey.
Sure enough, after crossing we parked the car and could see birds in the nest. This photo is taken with the extreme zoom on the camera, as it is a very tall pole!
The nest itself has got to be 3.5 feet across, at least.

This card was done a while back. It is called faux batik.
Using glossy white cardstock, stamp with clear versamark and emboss with clear powder. Use alcohol inks and metallic pens to create a polished stone technique over the background. When it is completely dry, place the cardstock face down on absorbent kitchen paper towels and place a single layer over the top. Use a hot iron to press, moving it about to clean parts of the paper towel until all of the embossing is out of the cardstock.
Finally, trim off the messy edges of the card and mount on a card front.
For this sample, I used one of my hand-carved rubber stamps.
Here are a couple of stitched cards made from one of the free patterns I have collected. It makes a nice 'mans card'.
