Joy Birds
Topic: New Work

Not only do I like making cards from calendar illustrations, but it pleases me to know that I'll never run out. They'll make more next year!

This is from a week-at-a-glance desk calendar. I found a scrapbook paper that complemented the picture and then made a mitered-corner frame out of a striped scrapbook paper. After layering all I used watercolor marker to sketch a doodle line around the picture.

I added a sticker for text.

Glittery Night
Topic: New Work

This card front does not show all I added. Every snowy rim has Stickles added giving this a wonderful shimmer.

I added a fabric text sticker.

What's In Santa's Stack?
Topic: New Work

Four old cards were used to make this one. 1) The metallic greeting 2) the stack of presents 3) the stars on the packages 4) Santa. The little guy came with glitter on his red hat and suit. I added Stickles to his beard, tassel, and added dots between the red glitter dots.

Holidays on Ice
Topic: New Work

This was a simple card - just a little cardstock matching for an image from an old card and the addition of a 3D greeting sticker on the top.

Snowmen Hangin' Around
Topic: New Work

These three snowmen were on one of last year's cards. I used a circle punch to cut them out, Rimmed each with a golden watercolor marker and attached them to an irridescent cardstock base. Then I used peel-off sticker waste to create hangers for them.

The text is a peel-off stickers.

Potted Poinsettias
Topic: New Work

This one is NOT made from scraps. I used black cardstock to free-hand a pot and trimmed it with peel-offs. I arranged a bunch of holly stickers and then added four 3D poinsettia stickers to make a potted plant.

Peel-off waste was used to band the top and bottom of the card and a gold sticker greeting was added to the pot.

Celebration Snowflakes
Topic: New Work

The snowflake panel if from a card front but the text panel is the inside liner of an envelope! Very odd coloring so I had a hard time matching cardstock for it. I did find this seafoam that worked, though. I added silver stickers over top of four of the snowflakes.

What with the text covering the whole background I didn't even need to add a greeting.

Golden Poinsettia
Topic: New Work

I cut this gold poinsettia off an old card front and backed it with poinsettia stickers on a gold metallic cardstock base. The sticker sheet came with a matching greeting block so I used that at the bottom, blocked out the last of the greeting and placed a peel-off over the top.

Swirls in the Night
Topic: New Work

I saved my Christmas cards from last year and used some to make my own cards this year.

For this card I used a flat front and ran it through the Cuttlebug for embossing.  I used Stickles on the tree to make it shimmer (sorry it doesn't show) and added a gold punched out star to the top. I added a 3D 'celebrate' sticker to the upper left and then placed a gold peel-off under it.

The whole thing was mounted on a blue folded card base.

Topic: New Work

I had an inspiration the other day while eating my yoghurt for lunch. We do LOTS of crafts for the preschoolers and many of them use scraps which we ask people to save for us. I looked at my container and envisioned turning it into a little penguin!

I drew up paper patterns, added a 2 inch styrofoam ball, and google eyes and this is the result.

I formalized the patterns and turned them over to the craft lady - along with this sample.

Date Book
Topic: Some Backlog

These were the last of the kits I had left - 11 meander books. The 8 1/2 x 11 page that this begins with is printed with the days of the year - one month per page - where the owner can write in birthdays and anniversaries. The last three pages list birthstones, birth flowers, and traditional and modern gifts for anniversaries. I made these with covers of mat board and spines of scrapbook paper. These are the simple books I taught my grandkids to make.

Round and Round
Topic: Some Backlog

I had more of these kits left than any other. I sat down and made 16 bracelets in one day. These are the 'Christ's Story' bracelet and will be boxed along with a card that tells the story with the beads.

Scrappy Scraps
Topic: Some Backlog

I used to have al lot more of these leftover kits. Then my darling grandkids came to visit this summer and we used up 5 of them. So this week I finished up the last 3.

In Stitches, Again
Topic: Some Backlog

Next in my kit-finishing spree I make up these 11 stitched pamphlets. They are designed after a card I was taught and I added a fancy liner paper and more pages. There is a metallic card insert in the folded point and it tucks into a double slit in the square cover.

Such an Angel
Topic: Some Backlog

Well, this isn't REALLY backlog. Let me explain. I cleaned my studio and pulled out all the unused kits leftover from all the classes and workshops I had done. I decided, instead of re-storing them, to just make them all up and THEN put them aside together. Then when a bazaar table opens up, a donation is needed, or I want a quick gift - I'll be ready!

The first to be done were the stitched and beaded Christmas cards I finished on my vacation.

Next up were these 11 kitchen angels made of a hand towel, a dish cloth, a pot holder, ribbon, chenille wire, and rubber bands. I have 6 Fall and 5 Christmas designs.

Love is Blue (and Yellow)
Topic: New Work

This bedding set named Sally Blue is from Egyptian Peddler and I was drawn to the combination of this unusual blue and a buttery yellow in stripes and brocade.

I started with a scrapbook paper in two tones of yellow and placed strips of Eclipse paper over the stripes as a resist. Then I lightly brayered over the paper with Starry Starry Night (Whisper Ink Pad). I used the same to stamp diagonal stripes of decorative pattern. Then I used a scrolly larger stamp to create more decoration. Peeling off the Eclipse paper left me with this patterned paper. Neat huh?

I used it to wrap the inside and outside front of a base card and then turned back one corner to mimic a bedding coverlet. The stripes on the inside are rub-on stitching, the heart is a sticker and the three text blocks are Tim Holtz Adage Tickets on which I penned in a second line.

Fishy Wishy
Topic: New Work

More from the clipping file, I cut this illustration down close to these three fish. I think the speckled background brings to mind the fish coloring and the sandy bottom of their streams. After I put on the text sticker the background was too light so I used a sponge to add color from a Butterscotch Adriondack ink pad. I colored it around all the edges of all the panels and a little bit on the fish as well.

Christmas Angel
Topic: New Work

This print from a magazine was an ad for paper and how well it could be printed on. I tore it out and backed it with a torn strip of music. Three metal musical notes and a metal plaque reading 'peace' are glued on before I placed gold peel-off corners and a Christmas greeting.

Birds on a Journey
Topic: New Work

This scrapbook paper with whimsical little clouds makes a perfect backdrop for this trio of birds that were taken from a week-at-a-glance calendar. I mounted them on a folded card base of linen textured cardstock. Up the left side are two rows of 'stitching' which is actually rubons!

Of course, I added a text sticker, also.

Happy Sunflowers
Topic: New Work

Sunflowers from my file of clippings are matted with yellow cardstock and crackle-printed scrapbook paper. The cardstock base is made from the same yellow and the text is a sticker.
