Ooooh, Shiny!
Topic: Sketch Challenge

I started with the band of foil pansies and paired them with an irridescent paper run through the Cuttlebug with the d'vine folder. A shiny organza ribbon divides them and leads the eye to the silver and rhinestone star flower.

I accented the darkest tone of the pansies by repeating that color in the panel border and lightened the overall feel with a casual pastel striped scrapbook paper.

For Him
Topic: Sketch Challenge

I turned this one into a man's birthday card just by the use of masculine paper. It becomes a little more celebratory by adding a sparkly ribbon and three rhinestones.

The papers are scraps of ones already used in this series and I added a chipboard text greeting. This used to be one long tag but I cut it in two to mount it over/under.

Tulip Heart
Topic: Sketch Challenge

For this background I used a piece of paste paper I made some time ago. Two scrapbook papers echo diagonal gridwork and are separated by a green organza ribbon.

I topped a chipboard diecut with a red acrylic heart sticker and used glue dots to attach it to the card front.

Loving Hearts
Topic: Sketch Challenge

So how many of this sketch DID you make, you're asking? Many, many more...

Today I went with a soft color combo - pink and beige. The pinks are coordinates from a cardstock pad combined with a pink ribbon and overlaid with pink acrylic heart stickers. The pinkish beige backing softens it.

The focal embellishment is a thick acrylic sticker embedded with papers, thread and pressed flower.

Bubbly Kisses
Topic: Sketch Challenge

I love these clear bubble acrylic stickers! I used them over the dots on the green paper again cause I love how it looks. That bottom strip is the border off the rose fabric shown yesterday.

I loved mixing up the greens for this one. I pulled the burgundy for the ribbon from the bottom border and then found the chipboard tag with the burgundy text to bring it all together.

Wooden Heart
Topic: Sketch Challenge

I fell in love with this paper combination. The rose border is actually a magazine photo of a length of quilting fabric - I would love to sew with this fabric! I used a muted text background to keep with the vintage feel and chose the pink dotted paper to pull the pink from the roses.

I placed clear acrylic dot stickers over all the dots on the pink paper and popped on a wooden heart button with ribbon knotted through the holes.

Heartfelt Greetings
Topic: Sketch Challenge

Today's card is a bit more subdued than the last couple of days - simply selection of materials. The background is a scrapbook paper as is the top of the feature papers. The bottom strip is a scrap of the Color Me paper I had left over from a recent project.

Love the gold-edged organza ribbon. I added a chipboard diecut tag and then placed milky acrylic flower stickers over each of the dots on the green paper.

Soft Stripes
Topic: Sketch Challenge

The background for this card is a textured scrapbook paper. I used it to pull colors from the striped paper and then chose the green dotted paper the same way. More matching the stripe gave me the block frame and the ribbon color.

The feature embellishment is a thick acrylic sticker with embedded papers, thread, and pressed flower. I accented with three rhinestones.

Poppy Sketch
Topic: Sketch Challenge

I added a new category to the topics: Sketch Challenge. I have started participating in these for the Operation Write Home blog. This set coming up in the next few days was for sketch challenge #61 back in March.

For the background I started with a magazine illustration photo of a field of poppies. I keyed all the colors from that and then used a couple of muted patterned papers to tone it down.

I finished off with orange ribbon and rhinestones and added a chipboard diecut.

D is for Daisy
Topic: Paper Embroidery

Here's that butterfly ring again! This time I stitched in an uncommon color to link it back to the illustration I was going to use. The background cardstock was chosen to go with the picture as well. It is actually more of a buttery color than the tan it appears to be.

This was done for the alphabetical stitching swap and fulfills 'D is for Daisies'.

Wordless
Topic: Scrap Recovery

One more of the flower quilt blocks left and tired of the same old sketch from the challenge, I went searching through the table scraps and came up with this face I had dry embossed with a brass stencil in the Cuttlebug.

This is a shimmery paper and I dropped it onto a brown folded card base. On the center and each of the four corner flowers I placed a champagne colored rhinestone.

HAPPY Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Whew! Last one of these sketches!

I used more of the green woodgrain paper and a cream panel as a base for this floral. The image is from a travel magazine and I cut it down to 1 inch squares.

I provided text with a clear sticker.

ROSE Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Can you believe it - more of the same sketch!

I started with the rose which was cut from an old greeting card. I cut the illustration into 1 inch squares. I laid down a green wood-grain scrapbook paper and over that a red/yellow plaid. The rose squares are then mounted with a bit of spaceing.

I added text with a clear sticker.

HAPPY LIFE Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Still with the same sketch

I started with a set of quilt blocks, cutting them out of a larger quilt and trimming them down to 1 inch. I mounted these up on a blue background and overlaid with a vellum text panel, attaching the layers with red heart brads. These are mounted over the base layers with foam dots.

The base layers are made up of a navy folded base, a tone-on-tone cream scrapbook paper and a coral cardstock strip. The punched butterfly is mounted 3D by gluing down only the body and folding up the wings.

DRESSED to Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: More of the sketch

These squares are cut from another quilt photograph. Love these little dresses which I mounted together on a coral square of cardstock. This is popped up on foam over a block of blue scrapbook paper and a cantaloupe folded base.

I added a punched butterfly and a clear text sticker.

Faith in the Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Still doing the same sketch

For the background I used a different print from the Color Me papers and used a Tim Holtz distressing technique with three colors of distress inks. I cut the birds off of an old calendar and then filled in with yellow blocks from a paint chip and the brown blocks from table scraps. These are each individually popped up on foam dots.

The text is a clear sticker.

HELLO to the Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Same sketch as yesterday

I used more of the flower quilt and more of the old leaf greeting card. Also used table scraps of the polkadot paper. This is all arranged over brown folded card base.

I added pen 'stitching' around the dotted paper and placed the text rubon in the open space.

LOVE that Sketch
Topic: Scrap Recovery

ASSIGNMENT: Sketch Challenge

The assignment was to create a 4.25 x 5.5 card with a 1.75 x 5.5 panel across the lower portion and a grid of 9 one inch squares off to the left. I used more of the floral quilt blocks, mounted on a green backing and popped up on foam.

I pulled together some prints from a mini-pad and layered them over coral cardstock. The sketch did not have an assigned place for text so I added a word 'ticket' from Tim Holtz.

Distressed Panel
Topic: Supplies

The focal element on this card is a new product I picked up from www.paperwishes.com called Color Me Papers. They have clear embossed images all over the surface that allow one to color in multiple ways and leave the pattern in stark white relief.

For this one I used Ranger Distress Inks with a foam applicator, using two colors for a little variety. I stamped with a text stamp over the top with Old Paper distress ink. After roughing the edges I attached brads for decoration only, then used adhesive to attach it to the floral panel.

A rubon provides the text and a punched butterfly is glued at the body only with wings bent up.

Pussywillows
Topic: Scrap Recovery

Actually only the image of pussywillows is scrap - from junk mail. The background is music printed on heavy tissue paper. Over the pussywillows I attached a text block printed on vellum. This was done with copper brads.

This pictorial panel is mounted over the music with foam dots.
