We haven't had a horizontal card for a while. Sketch-makers must have realized this and made provision for it in OWH bonus sketch B31:

I've been using the same sticker sets so much that the cards are starting to look familiar as soon as I start. I should go back and review by sticker set to see if I have become predictable in the selection of the same papers and embellishments to use with them!

Fortunately, the cards will all go to different people so nobody else will be comparing them side-by-side.

For this one, I used the vellum hydrangea stickers over a white block. The leaf color was pickked up perfectly in the X background.

I added a little interest by using a multi-colored stripe on the horizontal bar.

On the same vellu sticker sheet as the hydrangea was a twist of purple ribbon. I used that inside the stripes.

Another SQUARE? That's the plan for OWH bonus sketch B30:

I liked the bohemian paper I used yesterday so I cut a new piece for the sketch today.

A couple of berry stickers matched the background and provided a second color that I used for the center square block.

I also used this color formula to create the sentiment block along with its stickers.

For the sentiment I used some word stickers from a mixed sheet and make hearts with Distress Markers.

The sketch for OWH bonus B29 is wide open for interpretation. One had better have an interesting feature piece to pull off something like this:

The large clear sticker I chose to use was strong enough to stand up to a bold background so I pulled out one with a bohemian look.

The crosspiece was filled with a pre-stamped sentiment which I trimmed even with the illustration instead of running it out to the edges like the sketch showed.

No base card shows on this layout.

What's not to like about a sketch with a little banner? That's what we've got with OWH bonus sketch B28:

I had a large floral heart I wanted to use in place of the circle and it was a good size for it. Color pulled from the petals were reflected in the background and lower horizontal piece.

I glued the banner flags to a piece of twine and tied at the edges of the heart. I used letter stickers on these flags.

I wanted to continue the sentiment on the horizontal strip so I moved it upward to give it continuity. The word used is a glittery script sticker.

I added a couple of purple heart brads at the ends of the strips.

AAAAK! I totally missed that this was a square card when I cut out all the parts for it. Here is OWH bonus sketch B27:

Sure, it seems obvious here, but on the page where I had the sketches printed 4-to-a-page it went right over my head.

The tag I used was smaller than the sketch allowed so, even with the rearrangement of the sentiment block, I ended up with a card that had way too much blank space at the top.

To balance this a little I added three tiny rhinestones along one of the lines.

I do like the colors of the papers and how they echo the flowers in the tag.

Do you realize how CLOSE we are to the end of these sketches? Here is OWH bonus sketch B26:

Well, that's different!

I had some pre-done diecuts from a long-ago swap and layered two of them with some patterned paper for the feature piece. 

To really make the cut edges pop I used a black background and mounted it on a matching cream card base.

I stayed with the heart shown in the sketch. If I were to do this one again I would back the vellum heart sticker with some white so it would be brighter.

And on we go with the OWH sketches - today it's bonus sketch B25:

I wanted to create my own elegant background so I reached for a lace-printed paper and overlaid it with groupings of rose stickers.

To allow more of the background to show I cut the sentiment panel down and tied the twine around that instead of the whole card like the sketch shows.

The white base card shows as a border around the whole card.

Another new OWH sketch is thrown into the mix - number 257.

I worked on this totally backwards from my usual method - I chose the sentiment block first from my file of pre-stamped scriptures.

This led to the bright dotted paper and that led to the background blue dotted paper. While I was in the dot-selecting mode I chose three plain papers from the colors in the feature paper and diecut circles from them.

Each of the circles got a silver medallion from a sheet of peel-off stickers and then I layered everything with black.

Three black brads are in keeping with both the design and the colors.

A simple sketch, a simple card - here's OWH bonus sketch B24:

I'm still trying to figure out why the measurements for the center panel are 3.5 as it is obviously not that tall.

I had a rub-on seed packet that was so old I wasn't sure it was going to apply to the paper. But a bit of babying and I managed to get it to stick.

To fit the sketch, the lower horizontal band covered up the name of the plant but the rub-on sheet had a smaller version of the label that I could use on top of it.

I used a green layer to go with the seed packet, a lavender layer for the flowers on the illustration and a white card base for the border matching the oval.

 You DO know that a heart, star or flower in a sketch really serves as a 'placeholder' allowing for any other element to fill that space? That is the route I took on OWH bonus sketch B23

I had some silver Dazzles stickers designed to layer. I chose different shimmer papers for the layers and trimmed out the flowers with scissors.

I pierced a hole in the center of each layer and staccked them on the prongs of a flower brad. The layers were also glued so they would not shift but would stay with their petals offset.

I mounted the stacked flower on a top-fold silver shimmer card base. and added a stem from the flower sticker sheet.

The silver peel-off sentiment landed just where the sketch indicates it should be.

Simple can be boring or it can be classy - I choose the latter for OWH bonus sketch B22:

Sometimes I forget until it is too late that placing vellum stickers on a colored background will change their color. I wanted that green background but didn't intend to get all that green in the petals. Oh well.

I selected colors from the illustration for the background strips and bordered the main panel and the background  with white.

I trimmed down a pre-stamped sentiment to include a thin white border and popped it up on foam tape.

Due to a heat wave I have been able to work in my cool basement studio without guilt. Now we're up to OWH bonus sketch B21.

This time I played it straight, only diverging by letting the clear vinyl butterfly sticker escape the bounds of the circle element.

I backed this with a piece imprinted with lace in white, gold and silver.

I used the extensions above and below this panel to stamp the sentiment in two parts.

The main background is yellow to match the butterfly.

I used a white card base with a small border showing all around the edges.

There sure are a lot of non-traditional card shapes in amongst the OWH bonus sketches. Number B20 is another square one.

A plaid and a dot were chosen to echo the colors in the vellum sticker mounted on white.

When I cut the circle, I placed the upper plate only down to the beginning of the ribbons. This allowed me to remove the partially cut circle from the die and finish the shaped portion of the cutting with a craft knife.

I cut out the pre-stamped sentiment with a round punch and mounted it with foam tape.

I love a good pun used on a card. I got to indulge myself on OWH bonus sketch 19:

I had to do a little adjusting to accomodate the balloons on the gold peel-off sticker but it is still in the spirit of the design. I placed the sticker on shimmer paper and used a craft knife to cut away the portions inside the balloons. These were backed with different colors of shimmer paper before the whole piece was mounted on a white base card.

On the same sticker sheet was the text phrase I used. It is hard to read in the photo - it says 'Fishing you a happy birthday'.

The lower piece of paper serves as the 'table' so it is appropriate that it is visible through the 'water' in the bowl.

You sure can change the entire look of a sketch with bold paper choices. That's the route I took with OWH bonus sketch B18:

Oh, how quite and calm this sketch looks.

I decided to carry over the one big circle into the papers for all the background elements. I chose a large black and white dot for the base and a multi-colored medium dot for the horizontal band. 

The large black circle is cut from a paper textured with small dots.

I had a vellum sticker sheet with only two round dots left on it. These were used on top of two white dots on the background tying it back to the multi-colored band.

A big red and gold vellum heart sticker fills the black circle.

We step back into a more predictable design with OWH bonus sketch B17.

Another selection from the sheet of rub-on violets was the starting point for this card. I gave them a neutral background of grey dots and then chose solid colors for the other paper which reflected those in the illustration.

I chose to run my colors right out to the edges of the card without leaving a border of the base card showing.

The sentiment in the sketch looked disconnedted so I attached it directly underneath the picture. This left a lot of empty space on the right which led to the addition of a peel-off sticker bloom. It was silver on the sheet but i colored it with alcohol marker to match.

OWH bonus sketch B16 provides another non-standard shape to work with:

Whilt I still had the grey papers on the top of the scrap heap from a couple of days ago, I decided they would make a nice neutral grid on which to feature some more colorful elements.

I cut multiples of 4 different prints to fill the 9 blocks. these were mounted on foam tape over a yellow card base in the prescribed 4.25 x 4.25 size.

I selected a variety of butterfly stickers from a clear vinyl sheet and stuck them on randomly.

The predictable thing would be to stamp a sentiment in the center block. So I went another route and mounted a pre-stamped yellow block to the surface in the lower right quadrant.

And now for something completely different! Oh how I love what they did when designing OWH bonus sketch B15:

You see, the black area is the actual folded card base, measuring 4.25 x 4.25 inches. Then the large circle is mounted extending above the fold so the finished card still reaches 5.5 inches.

I had some rose stickers (three the same in different sizes) that I wanted to use in a curve on the circle. this led to the selection of the outline rose paper which set the color pallete for the background to grey and white. I chose a grey dot for the large circle.

The circle was cut and mounted to the folded card base with the proper amount of extention. Then I layered the rose stickers around the lower curve.

In searching for just the right color of paper for the horizontal piece, I ran across a printed vintage paper with text printed in English and French. The text reads "My Beautiful Vintage Garden - Mon Beau Jardin"

When I used OWH bonus sketch B14 it spiralled off in a whole different direction than I had envisiioned - but in a good way!

See, the sketch is such a quiet, unassuming thing- don't you think?

As soon as I chose the illustration I knew I was going to have some bold colors that would stand up to it. So I chose the blue 'pearls' paper to surround it and bring it up to the prescribed size.

The best red I had was the one covered in white hearts so that wash chosen next.

I had a hard time deciding what to use for the horizontal band as most things I tried looked just stuck on. I liked the red scallop but it was too close to the background so I cut the white scallop to surround it.

A gold heart sticker with a cutout area for the red to show through fit well with the sketch but the sentiment contained in an oval did not. I finally used a pre-stamped sentiment on a matching blue background and cut it as a continuation of the center block instead of offsetting it like the sketch.

The reds and the blues really do match in real life but you know how these cameras mess with the color.

Another balanced design that calls for elegance is found in OWH bonus sketch B13:

As usual, I started by selecting an illustration to use. In this case it was a rub-on floral which I applied to a dotted background.

I wanted a background to pull colors from the floral and came to select a blue lattice. This led to the choice of some blue and white twine.

For the yellow I used a mottled paper in the deep background and a light script paper for a mid-ground layer.

I think this has a romantic feel to it - maybe because of the script that looks like it could be from a love letter.
